Union Officials met with Accuride Officials on Monday November 18, 2024 to discuss the future of Gunite. The Union was informed that a 60 day "WARN" notice was being mailed out to all employees. This letter will inform you that Gunite will be winding down operations and closing the facility in January if the facility does not have a buyer. Accuride expects to have all orders fulfilled by the end of the year. The Company also had a townhall meeting with employees in the plant to explain the situation. While this is not the news that we expected to hear, the Local is still confident that we will find a buyer. Next week's antidumping hearing plays a big role in our future. If the hearing goes in our favor, it could potentially bring up to 3 million brake drums back into the United States making it more appealing for a potential buyer. We ask all Union Brothers & Sisters to keep their heads up, stay strong and keep producing world class products. We will be having a Membership Meeting for all active and retired members of Local 718 on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at 11:00am. The meeting will be held at the hall (Carpenters Building) 212 S. 1st Rockford, IL. Food will be provided after the meeting.
